Forsooth

We are the people of this earth,
The ones who write our words in verse
A species who measure our mirth in worth,
The modern man, forsooth.

The kind who report on their gain,
Through the pitter-patter of the rain
Or the excruciating heat which sends them insane!
Immersed behind their computers, forsooth.

And in our lives we will refrain
And bind our happiness for monetary gain
In the high street, our wallets will strain
For hollow strength, forsooth.

Can we live in a life like this?
With the lack of hope and pitiful bliss
Where value is value and that momentary kiss
Holds no worth, forsooth.

But throughout the lights and throughout the glamour
There is the constant ring of the hammer
As many men are thrown to the slammer
And trapped for life, forsooth.

The darkened streets in which we dwell
As black markets rise and maliciously sell
Our hopes and dreams in its broken shell
To those "better than us", forsooth!

But look at those towers in the sky
Between while our dark streets lie
As those city owners laugh on high
At us peons below, forsooth.

Can it be said that we are weak
For begging at those golden feet
For scraps of food or momentary heat
That our bodies crave, forsooth.

But if looked upon by an immortal eye,
There will note an eternal symmetry,
Of waxes and wanes and children's cries,
That will forever continue, forsooth.

As the clock up high ticks away,
Passing the time, counting down each day,
And makes us miss the time in which to say,
The simple words "I love you", forsooth.

The wedding bells they arc in full swing,
Echoing their words with each individual ring,
With familiar blessing the skies will sing,
Of the match made in heaven, forsooth.

There, among the swirling desert dunes
A man walking a camel with its boon
Both knowing they may not be long for life soon
Because of Earth's anger, forsooth.

From the depths of the sea, undiscovered
To the blanketed snow top mountains, covered
Through the secret tombs of kings uncovered
By our ancestors long ago, forsooth.

And look at our people feeling blue
Trapped like animals held in a zoo
Wishing that this life weren't true
And they were free like dreams, forsooth.

The fiery sun, burning bright,
Covering the world with glowing light,
Watching over our human plights,
Silently forever, forsooth.

The moon that hangs between the stars,
Bright glittering dots, some red like mars,
The shooting comets, slash the skies like scars,
Sitting above in the night, forsooth.

When we watch that bubble burst
And let its contents dribble, like the first
With people trembling, waiting for the worst
Then where's our hope, forsooth.

But will we last until the end?
And throughout the glory we will send
A message to the future, around the bend
That we are finished, forsooth.

With ash falling like blanketed snow
Under the permanent florescent orange glow
That chokes our children of that we know
But turn a blind eye, forsooth.

We are the people whose lives immerse
In knowledge of the future where we'll ride a hearse
And through that notion we'll befall that physical curse!
Called age and death, forsooth.

That is an epic poem. I love the last bit. Reminds me of Danse Macabre.
